Following on from the previous year successful event, the Club and the Rapidz Crew are presenting an afternoon and evening of amusing competitions forall ages to enjoy.

Team Captains will be chasing you to join their teams; the friendly rivalry will be vastly entertaining and well worth watching even if you are not tempted to wang a welly at the Fitness Guru.

National Racketball Championships

The weekend of 6/7th July saw the coming together of the National Racketball and National Squash 57 competitions; not before time, to avoid confusion within the game.

The Compeititions in many age categories were very ably hosted by Edgbastpon Priory when over 230 players took part.

Our very ownGarry Westwood and Mervyn Davies took part in the Over 60'sand Over 50's groups respectively.

The standard of play and sportsmanship was high and our players performed magnificently doing ouir little Club proud. Gary was unfortunate to lose in the Quarter finals ; Merve came up against a superb player and played well but went down in the final.

The Club Championship was won this year by Barry "The Evil Giraffe" Talbot following a hard faught but convincing win in the final.

the Nolan Downing Trophy was wone by Stewart "Definately Not A Giraffe" Baldwin!

The Draw for the 2019 Squash Club Champtionship and Nolan Downing trophy has been made!

a few things to note

a) The Club Championship seedings have been taken from the end of season ratings on squashlevels.com
b) Please note the "play by" dates on each draw and arrange your fixtures ASAP.
c) We currently have large number of reserved courts throughout the month, these will be releases as soon as possible, but the championships take priority for now. I'll try to release unused courts at least few days in advance. Contact me for bookings (paulmathieson@hotmail.com)
d) The Nolan Downing draw was unseeded.
e) Players taking part in the county championships can also request a reserved court from me.

County Championships

All,

This year our club is hosting the Shropshire County Closed event. In the past the entry numbers for this competition has been disappointingly low, so this year we have included a Novice Ladies & Novice open tournament for non-team players (similar to our club Nolan Downing tournament, but on a county level), and also an open Racketball tournament. We also have Open O35, O45, O55 & O65 age categories so all members of the club who are interested can enter the relevant categories.

I would encourage all members to enter, as not only is this an opportunity to play people from across the County who you may not know, but also a chance to be in the finals weekend.

Can I ask all members who are entering to speak to their regular squash partners to encourage them to enter as well - This is a tournament for everyone.

The finals weekend will be held on the 4th-5th May, and depending on numbers some matches may be played on the Friday 3rd as well. There will be live music from our very own Gary Nolan, and I daresay Dave Ryan could be persuaded to dust off the karaoke kit as well.

‘Squash Girls Can’ at Ladies Grass Roots Taster Session

Shrewsbury Squash and Racketball Club are holding a free Ladies Grass Roots Squash Taster event next month.

The event which takes place on Friday 1 February between 7pm – 9.30pm will be a fun and relaxed introduction to squash, with some games and coaching for basic squash skills. It is aimed at ladies looking to try their hand at the game or get back into squash.

Squash is an exciting social sport that can get the heart pumping and the adrenaline flowing, whatever your age or ability. Being based on indoor courts it doesn’t matter what the weather is doing, you can still enjoy a game of squash.

Squash is also a fantastic sport for getting fit, being a great upper and lower body workout, strengthening muscles and burning up to 800 calories per hour!

The free Ladies Grass Roots Squash Taster event in Shrewsbury, will also be a chance to socialise with other players and meet new people with a glass of Prosecco and slice of pizza available for those attending.

Mr Graham Jackson, the chairman of Shrewsbury Squash and Racketball club said:

“We are very much looking forward to hosting this event, and we would love to see more women players taking up this enjoyable and competitive sport.”

Shrewsbury Squash and Racketball club is a non-profit members club based at the Shrewsbury Rugby club grounds, offering squash, racketball and table tennis facilities as well as a range of fitness classes.

They are affiliated with England Squash who are sponsoring the event as part of their ‘Squash Girls Can’ initiative.

About Shrewsbury Squash and Racketball Club Shrewsbury Squash & Racketball Club is a non-profit making club based at the Shrewsbury Rugby Club, Sundorne Castle Ground, Newport Road, Shrewsbury and is a members club affiliated to England Squash (ES).

The Club has three excellently maintained courts and each member has his/her own key fob to access the building and can play at any time of the day or night, subject to court availability.

The Club was a founder member of the Shropshire County Squash league, has 6 teams in the county leagues and has won many County divisional titles.
